It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Hell, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on Oppo.
What do you guys think of the early 2000s Lexus LS? I’m looking to buy a new car next year and this is extremely high on my list. With S-Class like features such as, adapative cruise control, 290 Horsepower V8, 0-60 in 6.7seconds,, Optional Air Suspension, LCD Touchscreen with Voice Activiation, RWD, Back-up sensors, Rain sensing windshield, water-resistant glass, optional power reclining massage rear seats equipped with audio controls, power sunshade, cooler and air purifier.
The car has dropped to the $10,000 to $20,000 range is the Canadian car market and is a true luxury car in every sense of the word. Despite conservative exterior styling, this car is actually quite popular in the modifying scene.
And obvious extremely fine build quality, reliability and safety (from what i’ve researched)
Whats wrong with his car? Anybody have any experience with this car?
I am really set on this car and I want to begin saving but I need to know everything. I’d be going from a Civic to this.

BOOOOOOOOORING. Seriously. (A friend of mine in high school would drive his parent’s LS430 all the time). It is very comfortable but the brakes are vague as all hell.
Super comfy, reliable, and luxurious though.

I think they're very understated and classy. Especially the facelifted ones. Also I'm pretty sure they're pretty solid and reliable if I'm not mistaken.

The LS430 is a great car with all the luxury and prestige you expect from Lexus and all the quality you expect from Toyota. You’ll impress your friends by driving a fine car and showing up on time every time. The air suspension sucks, like all air suspension; nobody can make an air suspension last, not even Toyota.
Bilstein makes a PSS9 suspension kit for the LS430/Celsio, so there is some street cred. Too bad no standard-spec HD shocks though. Also, there are plenty of good tires in the stock sizes offered on the LS430.
Plus, you don’t have to deal with frequent and high repair costs like Audi and other German cars.

I won’t expect it to be very fun, I expect it to be refined which is fine. I had a Camry Hybrid before and it was fine. I’d be getting rwd and more luxury in this.

Stupidly reliable... Tons of old rich people in my area driving these with over 150k on them with no problems. If it were me, I'd buy one, throw some nice wheels on and lower it a little.

If I could skip out on air suspension I might. But its usually tied to the fancy massaging seats and heated and cooled seats. Maybe Ill avoid it if I can. I’d probably bag it at some point anyways

It’s a Lexus. Reliable and posh. And of course you can VIP it out if that’s your style.

This is the plan, actually. I want a white one, I want the lip spoiler and roof spoiler like the last two pictures.
Gold badging. Rims. Muffler Delete. Lowered a little.
Just a nice cruiser.

OH YES! I have a secret desire to get a VIP Lexus. The only thing stopping me is I kind of want to drive a manual now.
That sounds exactly how I would do it. Nice sport exhaust, airbags, gold mesh wheels (probably Work VS-XX wheels), tint and window visors.
What makes you choose an LS over a GS?

I was really into the second gen Lexus GS300 with the 2JZ earlier this year but the Luxury features of the LS just sounded so much cooler. I just want a huge sedan with alot of presence. The GS is also higher on my list because it is much sportier and has the legendary 2jz, but I feel like the LS is more reliable. It is the Flagship.

Makes sense. I debate between the LS and GS a lot as well. You’re right though the GS seems to be a more civilian Lexus while the LS is more of an s-class. With that said, I think the third gen GS has a lot more presence due to its high belt-line and smooth silhouette. To me they scream “I am too important to be seen by anyone else.”

They’re what people who want an e39 540 drive when they don’t have the balls to buy an e39 540, so they settle for something that’s kind of similar, but boring.

I feel like the LS is more of a competitor to the 7 series actually. Similar size and features. You won’t find that amount of luxury in a 5 series. The GS competes with the 5 series more directly. Both are RWD Mid-size sedans with I6 or V8 options.
